Center City of Amarillo, Inc. invites you to join us for our “Christmas in Toyland” Electric Light Parade-2008. Golden Spread Electric Cooperative, Inc. will sponsor cash prizes to be awarded to the best entries: Best of Show, First Place business and nonprofit, Second Place business and nonprofit, and Third Place business and nonprofit. This year’s parade is being held in conjunction with the lighting of the City of Amarillo’s tree.
Entry Fee: Non-profit $25.00 Business $35.00 (Please include check with application.)
All Entries Must Be Lighted Or Glow-In-The-Dark
Check In:
1. Please be at staging area that you will be assigned by 5:00 p.m. ready to go by 5:30 p.m. with the parade beginning at 6:00 p.m.
Upon arrival, please see Parade Directors at the staging area to check parade line-up to make sure your placement has not changed.
3. You must sign an entry form and a release form to participate in the parade.
4. You will receive a list of the parade order, your assigned number and map a few days before the Parade. Please keep this number and place it on the passenger's side window on your vehicle. The number must be visible for judging.
5. If your vehicle is not in the parade, (horses), please arrange for pick-up at the end of the parade at the Civic Center.
Join us for a special performance by an area school choir and the lighting of the City of Amarillo’s tree following the last float’s arrival in the Parking Lot of the Globe-News Center for the Performing Arts. Winners will be announced at this location.
Parade Movement:
1. Move in ascending numerical order as parade begins.
2. If you are out of place, do not panic, just move with the parade.
3. If you are late and the parade has already begun, please go to back of the parade line and move with the others. Please be prompt and arrive on time for parade placement.
4. The parade will end in the Parking Lot of the Globe-News Center for the Performing Arts . Winners will be announced from a stage in that area after the parade.
Rules:
1. For the children’s sake, no LIVE Santa Claus will be allowed in any parade entries or you will be disqualified. We have arranged for a Santa Claus to be the Grand Finale.
2. Speed limit is 5 MPH. All participants move at a slow pace so the audience can admire your entry.
3. Keep four to five car lengths between yourself and the entry in front of you.
4. All vehicle drivers, please keep your lights on dim. (No headlights.)
5. Be prepared to pause momentarily as entries perform for the judges.
6. PLEASE DO NOT THROW FAVORS OR CANDY FROM THE FLOATS AS THIS CREATES A SAFETY HAZARD FOR CHILDREN.
Weather Cancellation:
1. The parade will take place under most circumstances. Call Center City at 372-6744 for questions.
2. Stay tuned to KGNC FM 97.9 or KGNC AM 710 for any announcements about changes.
